Judge to Bush: A Forest Is Not Just an Inefficient Way to Store Lumber
Posted by MEC on April 2, 2007

Another federal judge has smacked George W. Bush upside the head for his anti-environmental policies.
A federal judge on Friday overturned Bush administration regulations for national forests that critics said expedited logging and energy exploration, weakened wildlife protection, and shut the public out of forest planning.
U.S. Northern District Court Judge Phyllis Hamilton, based in San Francisco, found that because U.S. Forest Service officials had not conducted required environmental impact reviews of their new policies, nor allowed public comment on “clearly controversial” changes, they should be invalidated.
Note that this is also a smackdown of Bush’s rule by fiat. The judge specifically invalidated the rules because the American people were denied their legal right to comment on proposed changes.

You didn’t get the message? George W. Bush is for the environment.

THE PRESIDENT: Thanks for having me. (Applause.) Thank you, please be seated. Not a bad introduction by a cowboy. (Laughter.) Thanks for having me. Welcome to Washington. I’m glad to be with you. I was telling Laura this morning, I’m really looking forward to going over to talk to the nation’s cattlemen. I appreciate being with people who understand the importance of faith, family, hard work, good values. I like to remind people, every day is Earth Day if you make a living off the land. (Applause.) It’s good to be with fellow conservationists.

“It’s good to be with fellow conservationists.”
That’s just his mispronunciation of “conservatives”.
And he’s not a conservative, either.

“Every day is Earth Day if you make a living off the land.” That’s a nice phrase, and I have heard it often at ag-related meetings.
It’s too bad that it has little basis in fact.

I think we do, Ron.
Fingers firmly crossed here, but I think we do.
