Speaking Of Smoking…

Posted by Phoenix Woman on April 3, 2007

The esteemed Dick Day, Minnesota State Senator, showing his vast and encyclopedic knowledge of the important health issues of the day (sub. req.):

Day said that his opinion further changed during the Senate discussion regarding the bill when Tom Neuville, R-Northfield, explained to the Senate that the dangers of secondhand smoke may be exaggerated.

“He explained about secondhand smoke and how it’s
totally bogus,” Day said.

“It’s basically a feel-good emotional issue. He
brought out a whole bunch of studies and so I looked
at the whole thing and thought, ‘Wow, this is really
big brother taking over people’s lives.’”

Getting medical advice from Tom Neuville is like getting shopping tips from Lindsey Graham and John McCain. The guy refuses to admit that mankind can and has caused global warming, despite the growing mounds of evidence.

As it is with global warming, so it is with secondhand smoke: Groups that aren’t funded or infiltrated by paid industry hacks state clearly and unequivocally that secondhand smoke is a killer. And if Dick Day had a brain, he wouldn’t embarrass himself by siding with the hacks.

Maybe we should just call him Senator Sick Day: He seems to support forcing people to take them.

UPDATE: Oh my gosh — I went to check out Tom Neuville’s blog, and he’s pimping the utterly-debunked “Great Climate Swindle” film! What. A. Moron.

Here’s my post on the debunking.  This is just too frickin’ hilarious.
