The Non-Correction Correction
Posted by Phoenix Woman on April 3, 2007
As Charles noted the other day, even as they bash Democrats for demanding a timeline, they’ve already met secretly with General Petraeus, according to Andrea Mitchell, to tell him that unless there’s significant improvement in Iraq by this August — which there won’t be — they’re pulling the plug. (Mitchell, no doubt after heavy hammering by her Beltway buddies for giving the game away, later amended her remarks in a non-correction correction that didn’t change the central facts much, if at all.)
Why did the Senate Republicans tell Petraeus that August 2007 was the drop-dead date? Bob Fertik knows why:
Labor Day 2007 marks the beginning of the 2008 election campaign. And come Labor Day, the last thing in the world Republicans want hanging around their necks is the disastrous Iraq War.
‘Nuff said.
