And The Hits Just Keep On Comin’

Anyone who thought that the Palfrey revelations were the only instance of adultery in Professional Christian David Vitter’s life has turned out to be sadly mistaken:
U.S. Senator David Vitter visited a Canal Street brothel several times beginning in the mid-1990s, paying $300 per hour for services at the bordello after he met the madam at a fishing rodeo that included prostitutes and other politicians, according to Jeanette Maier, the “Canal Street Madam” whose operation was shut down by a federal investigators in 2001.
After they met, Maier said Vitter became a customer at the Mid-City brothel. He made several visits, she said, but had stopped coming before federal agents raided the brothel.
[...]
At the New Orleans brothel, Maier said Vitter spent time with several women, but preferred one in particular named Wendy. She said all the girls that were with Vitter described him as a kind, respectful man, who did not talk down to them or use drugs.
“I’m not out to ruin a marriage, I’m out to save a man,” Maier said. “I want his wife to know he’s a good man, I want his children to know he’s a good father. If he had sex out of wedlock, so what? At least he stayed with his children.”
Vitter and his wife, Wendy, have four children ages 13 and under.
Hey, looky! Vitter’s got a character witness!
Meanwhile: Do recall that in the earlier, non-Palfrey-related allegations concerning Vitter from 2004 and before, the name of his favored Canal Street hooker was Wendy Cortez.
Oh, and here’s a blast from the past:
“I think Livingston’s stepping down makes a very powerful argument that Clinton should resign as well and move beyond this mess,” he [Vitter] said. [Atlanta Journal Constitution, 12/20/98]
Well, Senator Mess-Maker? You said last night that your sinning was over years and years ago. Well, Clinton’s affair had been over for nearly as long when you said the 1998 words — even as you yourself were sampling the wares on Canal Street. What’s good for the Big Dog is good for the crapweasel.
And now, for your listening pleasure, the National Emblem March, my favorite music to enjoy schadenfreude by. Daa da da da dada dada da da DA da, da da DA da, da da DA, da da DA…

Here’s a kinky, kharmic kick.
According to a posting at http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com, Maier’s brothel was closed down following a federal investigation in 2001. I don’t know this to be the case, but it seems very likely that said investigation was the one that John Ashcroft took so much heat about, because he used FBI resources to target prostitutes in Nawlins, rather than to find terrorists taking flight lessons. And now the proprietor is out there, fingering (sorry about that — NOT) a Republican Senator. Love it.

I remember that. More than one person observed that only Louis Freeh’s FBI would take 6 months to find a prostitute in New Orleans.

There is no justice, but there is irony. :-)

MEC: Yeah. What was it, $500,000 and six months to find prostitutes in New Orleans?
Now that’s a scene that should have made it into Fahrenheit 9/11:
[Shot of Michael Moore reading from paper]
MOORE: Six months and five hundred thousand Dollars? Give me six hours and five hundred dollars, and I’ll find you some hookers in New Orleans.
[Cut to shot of Moore riding down Canal Street in a convertible with a bullhorn]
MOORE: Five hundred dollars! Five hundred dollars for a hooker!

They had to make absolutely sure. Absolutely sure. Up close and personal, again and again and again and again and again and….
With regard to hooker Wendy and wife Wendy, a coincidence that Shakesville has noted, at least he didn’t have to worry about calling out the wrong name at night.
