A New Low
Posted by MEC on February 20, 2008
By “a new low”, I don’t mean something Bush has done, not this time.
I mean Bush’s job approval rating in the latest American Research Group.
19%
Dang. Even Nixon only got down to 24%.
Among all Americans, 19% approve of the way Bush is handling his job as president and 77% disapprove. When it comes to Bush’s handling of the economy, 14% approve and 79% disapprove.
Among Republicans (29% of adults registered to vote in the survey), 45% approve of the way Bush is handling his job and 50% disapprove. Among Democrats (43% of adults registered to vote in the survey), 1% approve and 99% disapprove of the way Bush is handling his job.
Somebody please tie this tin can to the Republican Party’s collective tail.
— Ninety-nine percent of Democrats agree on Bush’s job performance. By golly, he is a uniter!

This was kind of a push poll on ARG’s part. First they asked a mess o’ questions about the economy, THEN they asked about approval of Bush. I’m sure he’d have been way up at 26 or 27% if they’d just straight out asked in the first place.
But it goes to show. The 1992 Clinton slogan is going to work just as well this time out. It IS the stupid economy, and the economy is going to get nothing but stupider between now and November. AND the GOP standard bearer is on public record declaring that he don’t know much about ‘conomy.

This, I think, is the right way to do it. Get people to think about the things that should contribute to their overall opinion of the job he’s doing, then ask him to rate that job.
