It looks like Muhammad Ali is going to be at Denver this week.
Seriously. He apparently contacted Obama’s people and asked if he could attend, and they said yes.
I expect that he knows about a certain photo that has pride of place on Senator Obama’s DC office wall.

With something like that up on his wall, he may also have run across my favorite quotation about how to negotiate with Republicans. Or with authoritarians in general. It’s 2000 years old, and attributed to Germanicus Caesar.

It’s for real, all right — it’s actually from a series of pics from his website, though I don’t have the link handy. The wingnuts freaked out over it because of course to them it means that Obama is a Scary Black Man.
I’ve heard that Obama is an admirer of Ali, and from what I understand the feeling is mutual.

That was somewhat surreal – seeing my name in a random blog post title. Cool, but weird.
In any case – yes, it’s real. Ali has called the DNC a “historic occasion”, and wants to be there. Even with his Parkinson’s – holy crap, can you imagine an on-camera meeting between the first black Presidential Candidate, and Muhammed freakin’ Ali? Gotta be NUTS.
