Politics, life, and other things that matter

John “Straight Talk” McCain continues to talk out of both sides of his mouth.

Republican presidential candidate John McCain said Monday the war in Iraq has been mismanaged for years and former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld will be remembered as one of the worst in history.

“We are paying a very heavy price for the mismanagement — that’s the kindest word I can give you — of Donald Rumsfeld, of this war,” the Arizona senator told an overflow crowd of more than 800 at a retirement community near Hilton Head Island, S.C. “The price is very, very heavy and I regret it enormously.”

“I think that Donald Rumsfeld will go down in history as one of the worst secretaries of defense in history,” McCain said to applause.

It’s not just that this scathing denunciation is just about the polar opposite of what McCain said when Rumsfeld resigned:

“While Secretary Rumsfeld and I have had our differences, he deserves Americans’ respect and gratitude for his many years of public service.”

It’s that McCain is an out-front supporter of Bush’s “surge”. He thinks that the war has been tragically mismanaged, yet he supports doing more of the same. It’s way too late for an increase in troop levels to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. More of the same means more mismanagement, more deaths, more miserable failure.

McCain for president? No, thank you. We don’t need another president who won’t admit he made a mistake.

One Response to “Disconnect”

  1. Note that even as the press continues to swoon over him, the American people are becoming less enthused about him. His poll numbers and Giuliani’s keep dropping as people get to know the two men.
