Bushco ratifies nuclear-armed Axis of Evil

Posted by Charles II on September 3, 2007

The US has lifted sanctions on North Korea, definitely a wise move. Sanctions did nothing but strengthen the dictatorship and encourage North Korea to arm itself with nuclear weapons. But there is something disconcerting about watching this double somersault to arrive at the same place that Clinton had achieved before Bush came to office.

Suzanne Goldenberg, The Guardian:

Labor Day News Roundup

— As Charles points out here, the Bush Junta’s attack on Iran has been planned for a long time and has little if anything to do with the pretexts du jour that are being rolled out to justify it.  (By the way:  Bush is planning the grand “product rollout” of his Iran attack for sometime this week.  Write your congresscritters (go to www.house.gov and www.senate.gov for their phone numbers and e-mail addresses) and newspapers and call up the radio call-in shows to spread the word.)

— Speaking of war-related bogosities, the Bush White House’s report that they’re ghostwriting for their sockpuppet General Petraeus has some really fuzzy math in it WRT casualties.

— The British have pulled out of Basra.  What’s missing from US accounts of this is the scathing criticism directed by British generals at the US efforts in Iraq.

— Thomas Paine’s Journal reminds us that US journalism has never been exactly pure; which just goes to show how remarkable, and heartening, it is that a good chunk of us (often the majority of us) have managed not to be fooled by it, at least not all of the time.
