America belittles itself. The shabby treatment of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Posted by Charles II on September 24, 2007

It was painful watching, through the lens of the treatment of the president of Iran, how small America has become.

On Thom Hartmann, the chief counsel for the right wing ACRU kept asking why Columbia didn’t invite David Duke to their forum for world leaders. At least three times, Hartmann patiently explained that David Duke is not the leader of a nation. The guy was so rabid that at least three times he didn’t hear the answer.

We imagine ourselves to be a noble and honest country, but we continue to falsely blame Iran for 9/11.

We call ourselves a free country, but we refused to let Ahmadinejad visit a public site, the World Trade Center.

We imagine our universities to be oases of tolerance, and yet the faculty host giving the introduction, Dean Lee Bollinger, gratuitously insulted Ahmadinejad.

We claim to have a free press, but will that press– as a whole– report that the students in the audience applauded Ahmadinejad on a number of occasions?

In an earlier post about an investigation into alleged weapons smuggling by Blackwater employees, I asked:

Which will be the first Congressional committee to subpoena Erik Prince, founder of Blackwater, theofascist, and brother of professional Republican Betsy De Vos?

Turns out the very Honorable Henry Waxman was way ahead of me.

The founder and chairman of Blackwater USA, the private security contractor, has been told to appear next month before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

In a letter today to Blackwater chairman Erik Prince, Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., said the hearing would concentrate on “the mission and performance of Blackwater USA and its affiliated companies in Iraq and Afghanistan.”

I should have known.
