Researchers have figured out a low-cost way to transmit broadband Wi-Fi signals as far as 100 km (60 mi), which is the limit they reach before the curvature of the earth defeats line-of-sight transmissions. Oh, and they’re low-powered, too, so they can easily be powered by solar panels: “It is also low-power, using around five to six watts for a system with three radios in a link, making it possible to power it during the day from solar power or by battery during the night.”
