And Another Two Bite the Dust

Posted by MEC on March 28, 2008

On March 1 this year, Felipe Sixto was promoted to Special Assistant to the President for Intergovernmental Affairs. Three weeks later, he resigned “after learning that his former employer, the Center for a Free Cuba, was prepared to initiate legal action against him” for misuse of funds.

Just before Sixto got his short-lived White House job, Timothy Goeglein, who Bush’s liaison with conservatives and Christian groups, resigned after getting caught plagiarising columns for an Indiana newspaper.

When the next Administration begins, the employment applications will have to be revised… no, come to think of it, they should leave “Are you corrupt to the very core?” on the application, but only consider those applicants that give the opposite answer from what the Busheviks obviously require.

Blogging Against Torture

Posted by MEC on March 28, 2008

Spread the word.

For me, today is also Anti “Enhanced Interrogation Techniques” Day. I am against not just the interrogation methods that phrase covers, but the phrase itself. It’s intended to hide the grim reality of what the U.S. government is doing to people, not to obtain crucial information, but to justify imprisoning those people.

What they’re doing is torture. And torture is wrong by the standards of any society that can claim to be civilized.

It also doesn’t work.

So make it stop. Now.

C’mon And Take A Free Ride (Free Ride!)

Posted by Phoenix Woman on March 28, 2008

One of my online buddies (UPDATE: good old Ollie Ox from Bluestem Prairie) reminds me that there’s this new “Free Ride” book out by David Brock of Media Matters that’s all about the US press’ lovingly submissive relationship with John McCain.

You can watch the video for it here.

You can order it from Amazon here.

Pew Poll Confirms WSJ Findings

Posted by Phoenix Woman on March 28, 2008

Hard on the heels of the Wall Street Journal poll, the Pew poll says pretty much the same things:

The Pew Survey and one released yesterday by NBC News and the Wall Street Journal concluded that the Wright controversy had not caused lasting damage to Obama’s campaign based on the fact that Obama had not lost ground in the horse race against Clinton and Arizona Sen. John McCain.

However, Pew differs from yesterday’s NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll in the numbers. The Pew Survey, conducted March 19-22, says Obama is ahead of Clinton 49 percent to 39 percent, with a 5.5 percent margin of error where yesterday’s NBC/Journal poll had them deadlocked at 45 percent each. That poll was conducted March 24-25. Gallup’s daily tracking poll, conducted March 24-26 has Obama ahead 48 percent to 44 percent with a 3 point margin of error.

The WSJ poll, unlike the Pew poll, had McCain edging Obama and beating Clinton, but both results were within the margin of error.
