Donna Brazile Reminds Hillary Of Something

Posted by Phoenix Woman on March 29, 2008

That’s gonna leave a mark (h/t tommytutone):

Donna Brazile — an uncommitted superdelegate of the Democratic National Convention and one of television’s few black, female political pundits — interjected an intriguing observation this afternoon into a discussion on CNN about Hillary Clinton’s stiff-arming of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

In short, Brazile provided a pointed reminder that some voters (African Americans, in particular, we would think) might recall that Wright did not turn on Clinton’s husband during an hour of need for him.

Her comments assured another burst of attention on the Obama-Wright connection — something her campaign didn’t have to do during the white-hot heat of the controversy. And it took part of the media spotlight away from her faulty memory (or, less kindly, utter fabrication) about her visit to Bosnia when she was first lady.

Clinton could have contented herself with decrying Wright’s messages without saying, in essence, that no way would she tolerate an association with the likes of him.

That’s what Brazile picked up on, making a reference to Wright’s willingness to join dozens of other religious figures in attending an annual White House prayer breakfast just as the Starr report on Bill Clinton’s affair with Monica Lewinsky — in all its lurid detail — was about to come out. No doubt …

… those at the event — at least the vast majority of them — highly disapproved of Clinton’s behavior. But they were not willing to shun him.

Brazile’s none-too-subtle point: There’s a potential downside to turning away, with nary a forgiving nod, from those who once stood by you.

The old triangulation tricks won’t work any more. Not only that, they are actively alienating people who, like Brazile, were once firmly in the Clinton camp. Loyalty is a two-way street, and I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that Brazile was fuming when she saw James Carville call Bill Richardson a “Judas” for backing Obama over Hillary after seeing how the Clinton campaign was attacking Reverend Wright, who had stood by them in their hour of need ten years ago.

Wonder if Donna Brazile wasn’t so much reminding Hillary as reminding certain voters.

Still, shame on Brazile for participating in “Let’s distract from issues and slam Obama all at the same time!”

Granted, the cable news shows aren’t going to invite somebody into these discussions who will say, “Why are we even talking about this? It’s a sideshow, a distraction, and there are more important issues at stake.”

Although the polls show the media’s obsession with Mr. Wright hasn’t decreased support for Obama, it has had the effect of trivializing the campaign. Polls show it’s the “issue” that the most people know about, and know most about.

I vote that, as our contribution to sanity, MercRising ignore snottiness from Democratic candidates and surrogates for the duration.

Works for me. It would certainly contribute to our own sanity not to read that trash.

I rushed down here to make a comment. But having read what Charles II has had to say, I’ll skip it.

How about, for a change, evaluating Clinton and Obama on their own words (whether truth, lies or deceptions) and forgetting about those external to the debate (Wright, Ferraro et.al.)

Hillary Clinton has lied, repeatedly, about factual matters (they have been disproven – see Youtube et.al.) She has attempted to deceive on Obama’s faith, background and voting record.

Barack Obama has not lied or attempted to deceive.

    See, wasn’t this easier?

Jeremiah Wright: “Bill Clinton was riding dirty. He did us like he did Monica Lewinsky.”

Donna Brazille can go screw herself; Jeremiah Wright was NOT a friend to the Clintons.

Semidi, do you have a reliable cite for that quotation? I tried to find a source for it myself, but only found blog — and Free Republic — posts that quoted it without linking to a source. It doesn’t seem to be in any news reports or anywhere that show it wasn’t just made up to make the Rev. Wright (and therefore Sen. Obama) look bad.

  8. Same here. I’d like to see a real cite.

pfft. My attitude is “who cares?” People– including normally sensible people– have said so many stupid, hypocritical things about Bill Clinton’s affair that one more or one less does not matter.

Now, if Wright runs for office, it might matter. But only because someone so sexually illiterate that he confuses cunnilingus and heavy petting with anal penetration should not be put in charge of the HHS budget.

    Fellatio, you mean?

If these comments and need for verification of the “riding hard” skit are asking for proof of Wright saying and demonstrating the “riding hard”…..just go to YouTube and search. This was part of the Wright sermons. There are at least 7 videos of this obscene act:
