Silver-Spoon McCain Owns So Many Houses, Even He Can’t Keep Track Of Them All

Posted by Phoenix Woman on August 21, 2008

I kid thee not:

Days after he cracked that being rich in the U.S. meant earning at least $5 million a year, Republican presidential candidate John McCain acknowledged that he wasn’t sure how many houses he and his wealthy wife actually own.

“I think — I’ll have my staff get to you,” McCain responded to a question posed by Politico, according to a story Thursday on the publication’s Web site. “It’s condominiums where — I’ll have them get to you.”

Later, the McCain campaign told Politico that McCain and his wife, Cindy, have at least four in three states, Arizona, California and Virginia. Newsweek recently estimated the two owned at least seven properties.

Talk about elitist Republicans!

Obama’s people took advantage of McCain’s setting up the T-Ball for them with this ad and these comments from Obama:

“Now think about that – I guess if you think that being rich means you gotta make five million dollars, and if you don’t’ know how many houses you have, then it’s not surprising that you might think the economy is fundamentally strong!”

“But if you’re like me and you’ve got one house – or you were like the millions of people who are struggling right now to keep up with their mortgage so that they don’t lose their home, you might have a different perspective.”

Wham!

  1. MULTI HOUSING FAMILY

Though the wealth is both his and his spouse’s,
And he fancies he’s close to the throne,
Politicians who live in glass houses
Should know just how many they own.

In another forum, I’ve seen the rightwing response to McCain’s gaffe: Obama shouldn’t cast the first stone about houses, because convicted felon Tony Rezko helped him buy a big expensive house.

And sure enough, McCain’s going to run an ad saying exactly that.

That ad could be a big mistake, because Obama can respond by hanging Ralph Reed and Jack Abramoff around McCain’s neck.

Have you seen the LA Times’ article on their tax plans and the rich?
    http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-na-taxplans21-2008aug21,0,3758648.story

It fails to mention that health premium payments would be taxed.

it would be great if you could write them a letter!

“health premium payments would be taxed”

Which is interesting, because the Republicans have been accusing the Democrats of offering health plans that would encourage employers to stop providing health benefits (because they wouldn’t have to if the government did). Making coverage, in effect, more expensive would be even likelier to discourage employer-provided health benefits.
