Bush Criticizes Suppression of Dissent

Posted by MEC on August 31, 2008

George W. Bush criticized the Chinese government for rounding up dissenters to prevent unseemly displays during the Olympic Games:

“America stands in firm opposition to China’s detention of political dissidents, human rights advocates and religious activists,” Bush will declare in the marquee speech of his three-nation Asia trip. “We speak out for a free press, freedom of assembly and labor rights — not to antagonize China’s leaders, but because trusting its people with greater freedom is the only way for China to develop its full potential.”

Is anybody going to ask him what he thinks about the police doing the exact same kind of pre-emptive strike against possible protesters in Minneapolis and St. Paul?

Wrong Decision, George

Posted by MEC on August 31, 2008

Instead of giving his scheduled speech at the Republican National Convention, George W. Bush is now planning to go to Texas on Monday to meet with emergency workers.

George. Even if Hurricane Gustav has passed through the area by that time, the emergency work won’t be done. It will only be beginning. You will be in the way. The security arrangements rquired for your visit will keep people from doing what needs to be done.

And did you forget that you promised during the 2000 presidential campaign that you wouldn’t use other people’s suffering as a photo op?

Send federal assistance if it’s needed, but stay away. Your presence is unnecessary and unwanted.

An Alaskan Analyzes Palin’s Record

Andrew Halcro, a former member of the Alaska legislature who ran for governor in 2006, analyzes Sarah Palin’s positives and negatives.

I can only guess that McCain is counting on the so-called liberal media to overlook her negatives.

Sideshow Bob’s Last Stand?

Posted by Phoenix Woman on August 31, 2008

The mayors of St. Paul and Minneapolis, upon seeing some of the rather overwrought actions by the cops in Denver, promised a more restrained demeanor by our own law enforcers.

They apparently reckoned without Sideshow Bob Fletcher, for whom the boundaries between city and county, or county and other county, are nonexistent when it comes to kicking in doors for fun. When you’re a guy who just lost two of your buddies to a five-year-long FBI investigation that’s coming closer to your own self, and you’re a mindless thug and bully anyway, there’s not much keeping you in check.
