First Powell, and Now…

Posted by MEC on October 20, 2008

Kenneth Adelman endorses Obama.

Kenneth?!? Adelman?!?

Colin Powell’s endorsement wasn’t much of a surprise. He’s a moderate (relative to the Republican Party), and he has a reputation to salvage.

But why would a lifelong rightwing Republican, a man who campaigned for Goldwater, who worked for Nixon, Ford, and Reagan, who has been friends for years with Cheney and Rumsfeld, publicly announce that he’s voting for a Democrat for president for the first time in his life?

Primarily for two reasons, those of temperament and of judgment.

Like Colin Powell, Adelman cites McCain’s incompetent response to the economic crisis and his inexplicable choice of Sarah Palin as his running mate.

As painful as the mortgage crisis is for the people losing their homes and unable to get credit, it may have saved us from another four years of disastrous Republican misrule.

  1. Yup. The conservative movement has degenerated to the point where anyone who is knowledgeable and sane — not necessarily moral or kind, just plain sane — cannot stomach them.
