Sadly, This Does Not Surprise Me
Posted by Phoenix Woman on November 3, 2008
As most of you know by now, Barack Obama’s beloved grandma, his “Toot”, Madelyn Payne Dunham, passed away this morning from cancer. She was 86.
What you may not know is that the Republicans chose that moment to launch a supremely sleazy smear job:
What… timing. The California GOP goes after Obama for using his campaign plane to fly to visit his dying grandmother without reimbursing the campaign.
I seem to remember Palin flying back to Alaska to see off Tripp—always described as a personal trip. Should she have paid for that? When McCain suspended his campaign he still flew around in the campaign jet.
But more to the point, at this time, is this really something the Republicans think is going to do anything but make them look petty and heartless?
The only thing I can think of, other than sheer nastiness, is that they are trying to provoke a response in Obama that they will then turn around and put in their last-minute ads so they can paint him as an “angry black man”. Somehow, I don’t think that’ll work. I think he’s too busy making sure that he wins this one for Toot.

Um.
I do believe the GOP has forgotten that they wrecked the FEC. By the time the new FEC gets around to hearing the complaint, they’ll be lucky if the Democratic commissioners don’t wrap the complaint around their ears.
