Glad to see my congresscritter is not among this. I have friends that have money and their kids will get some but they are smart enough to set it up to be tax free. Then again a lest they worked for it as my farm family neighbors and even they don’t need this.

  2. I’m beginning to think we should put a moratorium on allowing anyone named “Nelson” to be elected to the United States Senate.

An individual can give away $12,000 per year without triggering the G&E tax. That means that two parents, gifting over 50 years to 3 children can escape $3.6M. There is furthermore an exemption of $3.5M as of 2009. A couple could escape an additional $7M in estate taxes that way, for a total of over $10M.

The exemptions are getting ridiculous, especially considering that there is no dividend tax and the tax rate on cap gains is at a postwar low. Wealthy families can literally pay no taxes at all, if they wish.

Why would they want to pay taxes? I think they have a gene that prohibits taxpaying!
