Jane Hamsher Called It

Posted by Phoenix Woman on May 28, 2009

Tuesday, Jane said this:

GOP to Soak Wingnuts over Sotomayor

Meaning that the Republicans were going to squawk and raise a ruckus for fundraising purposes, but not actually do anything to keep Sotomayor from becoming the next Supreme Court justice.

Yesterday, we saw this:

Republicans see little chance of blocking Sonia Sotomayor’s Supreme Court nomination, a key GOP senator conceded Wednesday. But senators and advocacy groups are still girding for this summer’s battle — partly with an eye toward raising money and perhaps preparing for Barack Obama’s next nominee.

Is that a cash register I hear?

That’s what these people do when their political agenda is not getting significant traction.

They turn immediately to generic corrupt behavior, including the pillage and looting of their own base.

Umm, there’s something else the Republicans are “accomplishing”. LOL.

They are burying all hopes of significant GOP appeal to, or support from, Hispanics, as deep as they’ve already buried support from Blacks.

Some of them weren’t always this stupid. Less than 3 short years ago, prominent Arizona Republicans John McCain and Jim Kolbe told Don Goldwater, publicly and not all that subtly, to shut his fool’s mouth, when he started raving about setting up labor camps for undocumented immigrants.

McCain and Kolbe hail from a state where over 1/4 of the voters are Hispanic. I guess they weren’t too happy about Don Goldwater opening up their political jugulars along with his own.

These days, McCain has been co-opted by the lunatic fringe, and Kolbe has apparently been shut up himself.

I love the way the Republican Party is systematically and thoroughly alienating one major voting block right after another in rapid succession.

How long do you think it’ll be before these people have painted themselves so completely in the corner that only the dead will vote for them?

H–l, they’ve been winning elections with fictitious votes for years. If they could get the dead to vote for them, they’d be in great shape.
