A Little Anniversary

Posted by Phoenix Woman on April 19, 2010

Remember what happened as a result of right-wing media mouthpieces fanning hatred fifteen years ago today?

I do.

Oklahoma City, April 19, 1995. Never forget.

I remember immediately thinking, “It was some homegrown gun nut”, and hearing The Usual suspects proclaiming that it was Mooslim Terrorists.

Fifteen years later, the majority of Americans still mistakenly believe foreign terrorists are a bigger threat than the homegrown extremists.

For the commemoration in 1995, I took out my little temple bell and rang it once for each of the 168 victims. Maybe today, again.

Yes, and even more horrible (as you’ve noted) is the not-OK Legislature considering an official Milita (apart from the National Guard) to “defend” Oklahoma’s State “sovereignty” from our own Federal government. This, and especially in a time of war (right?) is being traitors. Note that despite the Right-wingers’ pretensions of such support for our military, our national military is who this seccessionist, neo-Confederate militia would be fighting.
