61% of Americans: Tax The Rich To Fix The Deficit

Posted by Phoenix Woman on January 3, 2011

You won’t hear Pete Peterson or his Concord-Coalition minions talking about this 60 Minutes/Vanity Fair poll:

Sixty-one percent of Americans polled would rather see taxes for the wealthy increased as a first step to tackling the deficit, the poll showed.

The next most popular way — chosen by 20 percent — was to cut defense spending.

Four percent would cut the Medicare government health insurance program for the elderly, and 3 percent would cut the Social Security retirement program, the poll showed.

Most Americans have quite a bit of sense and know who really is to blame for the deficit — and it’s not unions or Grandma. Why not have the rich, who have prospered greatly over the last few decades while most of us are either barely treading water or falling behind, give back a chunk of what they’ve taken in that time?

The 99: Not Your Father’s Superhero Comic

Posted by Phoenix Woman on January 3, 2011

Did you hear about the hot new comic book series sweeping the globe? I just found out about it today, from this gentleman.

It’s called “The 99”, and it’s worth checking out. Silver-Age-inspired artwork, with a very modern graphic-novel sensibility.
