More MN GOP Hypocrite Porking, This Time For Elk River

Posted by Phoenix Woman on March 24, 2011

Minnesota GOP's thumbs on the pork barrel scales again?

Right after Sally Jo Sorensen alerted folks to this bit of hypocritical politically-driven porkery by the Republicans who control the Minnesota Legislature, along comes Spotty of The Cucking Stool with another piece of Republican hypo-pork:

Amid all the negative things you hear about schools, and cutting school funding, and bringing those darn teachers in to line, it is really nice to see some legislators are trying to help schools. Sen. Amy Koch and Rep. Mary Kiffmeyer, specifically.

What? You can read more in the Strib story here.

Well, they are schools in Koch and Kiffmeyer’s own districts. Somebody else’s schools? Heaven forfend! Both bills are very short, so short they fit nicely in the space provided here.

Go click and read. Amazing. They’re barely even bothering to hide it nowadays.

Minnesota GOP Legislature Cutting Local Government Aid — Except For GOP Stronghold Of Rochester

Posted by Phoenix Woman on March 24, 2011

I know, I know: Getting mad at Republican hypocrisy is like getting mad at air. But still, this little news item from Bluestem Prairie is as infuriating as it is totally expected:

The Winona Daily News smells something fishy, and it’s not just rising river water.

Nope: the editorial board is looking at Minnesota Republican shenanigans with local government aid (LGA). To the west, the Willmar paper reports on the reaction by the Coalition of Greater Minnesota Cities to proposals by the legislative majority to scale back or eliminate LGA.

The ever-lively editorial writers at the WDN pull no punches with Our View: Rochester’s LGA funding smells fishy. It’s not with Rochester itself that the Winona editors take issue, but the Republican legislation favoring the Mayo City–the state’s third largest–over Minnesota’s other large cities…

As noted by BSP’s Sally Jo Sorensen, as well as by Spotty and Aaron Klemz at The Cucking Stool, the Republicans currently are trying to use LGA eliminations to drive a wedge between rural and urban Minnesota; they’re banking on rural voters to favor a “Screw the Cities” approach. However, that game plan falls apart, and the Republicans’ true motivations are exposed, when blatant exceptions are made for places that are Republican strongholds.

Oops.
