Not sure what credence to give this

Posted by Charles II on April 16, 2013

Al-Arabiya:

Essam Elerian, vice chairman of the Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), wrote in a statement posted in Arabic on his Facebook account that the “events [i.e., Boston bombing] began with the sending of French battalions to Mali in a war against organizations that are said to be part of al Qaeda.”

He condemns the attacks. So why would he have any knowledge of their origin? I think it’s probably BS and that we’ll find the cause of the attacks was a lot closer to home. But it’s one of those odd stories that makes one raise one’s eyebrows.

  1. By the way, that Saudi fellow who was himself injured in the bombing? He’s been cleared of involvement:

Actually, its one of those odd stories that makes the Great Echo Chamber resound to another flurry of nauseating conspiracy theories.

These are not “the times that try men’s souls”, so much as the times that drive people completely bughouse insane. The loonies are out there, and it doesn’t take much to get them stirred up. The problem is getting them to shut their ignorant mouths, once they really get going. The Old Testament God of Wrath with a nuke in each hand couldn’t do that.

I think the best strategy is to simply resist the temptation to speculate, at least until such time as an arrest has actually been made.

We all can remember far too many examples of the consequences of doing it the other way.

Yes, and the announcement of two suspects by the FBI makes it look more and more like Essam Elerian was trying to spin the bombing for political purposes.

I’m not sure I’d believe the media right now, if they told me the sun rises in the east.

Not in view of this charming obscenity I found at Mike the Mad Biologist’s blog today: Media Melts Down Over Reports Of Boston Suspect.

It’s the closest thing to a written timeline of a school of sharks in a feeding frenzy that I’ve seen to date.
